Sportswear MOQ Explained: Why 30 Pieces Is the Real Floor

How to Vet a Sportswear Manufacturer in Sialkot (10 Questions) — custom made by Zedler Sports

MOQ is the question that kills most first enquiries, and it is almost always answered dishonestly. Here is the arithmetic instead.

What an MOQ really is. Not a preference — a break-even on setup. A sublimation run needs a calibrated file, paper, an ink purge and a test strip. A sewing line needs the pattern laid, markers made, and an operator who has never seen your garment spending two hours on it. That fixed cost is roughly 4–6 hours of skilled work: divided across 30 pieces it is about USD 3–6 per garment, and across 300 it is 30 cents. That is the entire reason MOQs exist.

Why 30 and not 10. Below thirty, your per-piece price stops being a fabric-and-labour number and becomes a setup number, and you correctly decide the factory overcharged you. We would rather quote honestly and lose the order.

How to lower your MOQ legitimately. Consolidate into one style with mixed sizes for the whole squad. Choose a fabric already on the roll rather than a special-order colour. Accept a stock block pattern with your branding instead of new development. Those three moves take a genuine 60-piece MOQ down to 15 without anyone cutting a corner.

What a supplier offering MOQ 1 is actually doing. Printing transfers onto blanks, which will crack. Shifting finished stock they already own. Or quoting a sample price and repricing at bulk. None of those is manufacturing.
